Scholarships for the 2021-22 school year were awarded in June 2022, one to a student at each of South Lyon High School & South Lyon East High School

Purpose:
Civitan is a worldwide community service organization with local Clubs including the Kensington Valley Civitan Club which organize a variety of projects and programs aimed at serving individual and community needs including helping those with cognitive disabilities. Civitan’s Motto is Builders of Good Citizenship.
The scholarship is open to Seniors at South Lyon High School and South Lyon East High School who are active in volunteerism and community service.
The purpose of this scholarship is to recognize a senior from each high school who has demonstrated activities in serving others through volunteerism. The scholarship may be used at any college, university, community college or vocational/ technical/ trade school. The scholarship criteria are based on the applicant’s interest in continuing their education and participation in school or community activities.

Award:
A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to one senior at each of the high schools.

Selection Process:
Members of the Kensington Valley Civitan Club will review the applications and winners
will be determined no later than May 15, 2022. Scholarships will be awarded at the
Senior Awards Night.

Process and Deadline:
The application and essay are due by May 2, 2022. Send your completed scanned
application and essay to Sue Misener at suemisener@gmail.com. Questions can be

Requirements:
Completed application and an essay (2 pages or less) covering the 3 topics below.
  1. Tell us about yourself describing your volunteer and community service work you have done.
  2. What life lessons have you learned from these experiences?
  3. What impact has your community service had on your future career path?
You may also include up to two letters of recommendation (ex. teacher, counselor, volunteer leader). This is not a requirement.
