Present: Phil Crutchfield, Julie Pelletier, Maureen Posler, Thad Bogert, Diana Bolton, Paige George, Karissa & Elijah Canfield, Paulina Poplawski, and Theresa Furget.
Meeting called to order by Thad at 6:30 PM.
  1. Additions & Corrections: None.
  2. Business Meeting Minutes of 01/11/24 and Dinner Meeting Minutes of 01/25/24 were reviewed by members. Maureen made a motion and Phil seconded it to accept the minutes. Motion passed.
  3. Treasurer’s Report: Diana went over the general and MP financial statements for February. She also reminds members that the second quarter dues (January-March) are now due and need to be paid. Phil made a motion and Maureen seconded it to accept the financial report. Motion passed.
  4. Correspondence: Karissa indicated that the Lyon Twp. Today Magazine will list the club’s business and dinner meeting dates and it’ll also list the Youth Entrepreneur Market information.
  5. Project Updates:
    1. Greater Brighton Area Chamber of Commerce: Theresa indicated that this was previously discussed about joining the chamber. It costs $200 per year and the year runs from the month of joining to the following year. Karissa indicated the Chamber covers five cities and is very active. There’s both ticketed (fee involved) and non-ticketed (no fee) events that all members can take part in. A lot of times events are tied into a charity/non-profit. So, there’s a possibility that the club could benefit from this. Also, it’s a great way to network. Theresa will be the point person on this and share upcoming events with members. Karissa made a motion and Julie seconded it that the club join the Greater Brighton Area Chamber of Commerce by paying the $200 membership fee out of the general account. Motion passed.
    2. S. Lyon High School Scholarships: Maureen stated the applications are ready to go and the deadline will be April 17th for submission of the applications. Karissa will create a graphic to be used for advertising the scholarship to be used on the club’s website and on Face Book too.
    3. Desert Angels: Karissa indicated that 200 Miracle boxes were mailed out.  Cheryl received an email from a service person thanking the club for the Miracle box. She’ll bring it to the next meeting to share with members. Theresa indicated that she’s made a separate contact list for the Desert Angel group which currently has 20 names/e-mails. Maureen stated she has a list from the night of the packing party that she’ll give to Theresa, so, these contacts can be added to the list. Discussion was whether to send the monthly newsletters to these individuals. Theresa will do so and then monitor what responses she receives from this group, since there’s no upcoming packing party until probably sometime in November.
    4. Youth Entrepreneur Market (YEM): Elijah read a letter from Callie, a young girl that participated last year by making totes out of feed bags. She was very thankful for the opportunity to participate last year and looks forward to participating this year. This will be the third year and Elijah already has four applicants. This will continue to be held on the second Saturday of the month starting in May and going until September from 10 AM to 3 PM. ( May 11th, June 8th, July 13th, August 10th, and September 14th). Discussion was how to advertise the event to get more customers. Elijah discussed doing a video of the youth at the market explaining why they want to be an entrepreneur and then posting it on Face Book and elsewhere for marketing purposes. Elijah can make posters/flyers, but would need others to post them in various areas of the community such as the schools and at Abby Park etc. There was additional discussion about having the YEM at the Farmer’s Market. However, this isn’t a viable option as they would be subjected to a $50 vendor fee. The club could have a table there and try to steer customers down the road to the YEM. Thad will contact Nate (who runs the Farmers Market) and discuss putting up signs there about the YEM to attract additional customers. Face Book boost was also discussed and the need for this to be done more than several days prior to the YEM event. Thad will investigate this and see how much it might cost and then the club can come up with an advertising budget for YEM. Once the club joins the Greater Brighton Area Chamber of Commerce, this will be another place to advertise YEM. In addition, the Chamber does a Welcome Coffee event, and it was suggested that this could be held at the first market in May.
    5. Charity Poker May 19th-12th & June 20th-23rd: Elijah states the application fee is $200 for each event (for a total of $400) which can come out of the MP account like it always has. He also stated that he received an email from Mike (Krazy Kopz) that they have an opening for March 28th-31st and whether the club wanted to add a third event. Maureen brought up that we have a hard time getting members to work these events as it is. It’s always the same people working the events, plus, the club’s snowbirds will not be back in MI at this time and Easter is the 31st. The club will pass on this. Elijah made a motion and Diana seconded it to pay the application fee’s for the two events for a total of $400 out of the MP account. Motion passed.
    6. 20th Annual S. Lyon Area Creek Clean-Up Sunday April 21st, 9 AM-1 PM (Volunteer and / or Sponsor): Thad stated the club has an opportunity to volunteer and help with the cleanup, and to be a sponsor at three different levels-$100, $200 and $500. At all levels, the club gets recognition, however, at the $500 level of sponsorship the club can have a booth and pass out info about the club and Civitans. There was much discussion about what level to sponsor and then what items to pass out in addition to club brochures.  Karissa stated Biggby could donate coffee for the table. This led to discussion about handing out work gloves with the Club’s name/logo on it grabbers etc. In addition to coffee, could hand out food items such as donuts etc. Thad indicated that about 30-40 volunteers participate and after cleanup is completed, they come back for pizza. So, the club would have an opportunity to network before and after the event. Julie made a motion and Maureen seconded it , that the club would do a $500 level of sponsorship to be taken out of the MP account and could brainstorm later as to what promotion items would be handed out at the table. Motion passed. This is held at the Yerkes drain/creek by McHattie’s Park.
    7. Inspired Movement Project (Digital Play Space):Thad stated it hasn’t moved forward. He needs to get with ECC administration and produce a plan.
    8. Donation in Memory of Teresa Misner to The S. Lyon Historical Society: Diana wrote out the $500 donation check that was voted on at the dinner meeting and Thad will take it  to the S. Lyon Historical Society meeting on February 14th at 10:30 AM and present it on behalf of Sue’s mom-Teresa. He’ll let Sue know in case she wishes to be present  for the presentation. Other members are welcome to attend the meeting.
  6. Next Meetings:
    1. Dinner Meeting Thursday, February 22nd at 6:30 PM at Teresita’s Mexican Grill.
    2. March 14th Business Meeting.
  7. Karissa made a motion and Phil seconded it to adjourn the meeting at 7:25 PM. Motion passed.
Minutes taken by Theresa Furget on 02/08/24 and respectfully submitted on 02/10/24.
