Thad called the meeting to order at 6:32 PM
  1. Additions & Corrections: There were three additions and one correction to the Agenda.  Additions were the Abbey Park Tree Decoration, Distributing Flyers at the United Methodist Church and the Great Lakes Chef Catering Services.  The correction was related to the next dinner meeting.
  2. Minutes: Hal made a motion to accept the minutes from the October 13, 2022 meeting and Theresa seconded the motion.  All were in favor and motion passed.
  3. Treasurer’s Report: Theresa went over the report for the general and MP accounts for November 2022. Hal made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report. Theresa seconded the motion and the motion passed. Elijah presented a check to Theresa for $100.00 and explained it was a donation from Jeanne Kitchen, COO of Total Door Systems in Waterford for the Desert Storm Packing Event.
  4. Correspondence: None
  5. Project Updates:
    1. Inspire Movement (Digital Playspace): Thad was the point person on this project.  In January, we need to make this project a priority, The club received a grant for this project and it must be completed and a report turned in by April 2023.
    2. SW Detroit Library Project: Thad introduced club members to a third grade teacher.  The school she teaches at is low income. She has a goal to create a library for her students and to provide each student with a book.  The club agreed to support this project with shelving and books.  However, nothing has been done to move the project forward. Paulina said she might be able to get some used shelving from one of the libraries.  This is another project that we need to prioritize before the school year is over.
    3. New Hudson Trunk or Treat: Hal reported there was a good turnout for this event.
    4. Downtown SL Trunk or Treat:  The club did not participate in this, so no report.
    5. Salem SL Library Howl-O-Ween:  Paulina was not at the meeting, so there was not a report.
  6. Upcoming Projects:
    1. Desert Storm Packing Event: Our packing party is this Wednesday, Nov. 16.  It is a late notice; however spread the word that we can use more volunteers. Diana was going to check with the Hockey coach to see if there might be additional volunteers. Elijah created a spreadsheet for participant information.  Maureen and Vivian will handle welcoming people, preparing sheets confirming volunteer hours, getting participant information on the spreadsheet and handing out club information.  Cheryl will loan her computer for the spreadsheet.  Maureen, Hal, Cheryl and Diana will meet at Karissa and Elijah’s home to collect all of the donations and transport them to the Township Hall.  Pizza, cookies and pop will be provided to Volunteers.  Hal will handle the pop, Theresa will cover the cookies and Karissa will work out the Pizza with Cottage Inn, that handled it for our previous packing party.  Maureen arranged with one of the student parents to have students arrive at the community center at 5:15 PM to help unload cars and set up.  Karissa reported that a local orthodontist, Dr. Chrissy, donated 2,200 pounds of candy that was turned in at the dental offices.  Karissa reported that a local business group would try to donate beef jerky and drink mixes.  Elijah will print labels for 200 boxes.  If we exceed 200 boxes, he will do labels afterward.  Cheryl will supply crayons and paper for children to color pictures to add to the boxes and anyone that has thank-you or greeting cards should bring them to include in the boxes. Cheryl and Hal agreed to contact the SE Biggby stores to see about any donations.  As an addendum to the meeting minutes, contact was made with Biggby stores, however most managers or staffs were not aware of the donation boxes.  Perhaps the information did not get pushed down from Karissa’s contacts.  Some donations were picked up from the Madison Heights store. The Troy store is supposed to bring donations to the event. Please come and help at the Desert Angels Packing Party! This is a great event and so appreciated by the troops!
    2. Giving on the Grand:  This event will occur on November 26, 2022 and is for putting up the holiday inflatables in front of the United Methodist church.  A pancake breakfast will be from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM for volunteers.  Putting up the inflatables will start at 10:00 AM.
    3. Adopt-A-Family:  Details have not been published.  Cheryl volunteered Vivian to contact the agency for details.  Once we know the details, an email will be sent out to club members.
    4. Youth Entrepreneur Market:  Elijah provided dates for the YEM market so we can put the dates on our calendars.  The 2023 dates are May 13, June 10, July 8, August 12 and Sept. 9.  There was also a discussion about purchasing a tent.  The pros & cons of a tent similar to the Plymouth-Canton Civitan club, in the $1,800 range versus a tent purchased from Sam’s Club or Costco without any logo and would be plain white.  Discussion was all over the board and discussion was tabled until a future meeting.
e.Charity Poker:  Elijah reported that Krazy Kopz was opening a new location, the Walker’s Speakeasy, located at 8701 N. Beech Daly Rd., in Dearborn Heights., on Dec. 5, 2022.  This location would allow poker Monday through Wednesday.  Currently poker at Vision Lanes is from Thursday – Sunday.  Most present were hesitant about going to a new location and working non-weekends.  The decision was to stay with our Vision Lanes schedule and perhaps stop in at the new location and gauge traffic volume. The charity poker dates for Vision Lanes is May 11-14, 2023 and June 15-18, 2023.  Please mark your calendars to volunteer to work!
  1. Abbey Park Tree Decorations:  Cheryl brought up the tree decoration contest at Abbey Park.  Cheryl, Theresa and Diana will make up the committee to coordinate this event.
  2. Great Lakes Chef Catering Services: Elijah described a catering company that is a small business in Milford.  The food is phenomenal and the cost is about $15.00/person (final price TBD, based on what we pick) with a lot of food and a good variety.  The catering company is available and will provide the food for the KVCC Christmas Party.  In addition, Great Lakes Chef Catering Services will provide food to families in need.  The club members discussed how to support this effort. Theresa made a motion for the club to donate $250 towards food.  Cheryl seconded the motion.  Everyone present was in favor and the motion passed.
Next Meeting: Our next scheduled meeting would have been a dinner meeting on November 24, 2022,   at the Teresita Mexican Grill.  Since this is Thanksgiving, there will not be a meeting.  Our next meeting will be on December 8 and is our Christmas Party.  We hope to wrap the gifts for the Active Faith family we adopt. The Great Lakes Chef Catering Services will cater the food.
Adjourn Meeting: The meeting was adjourned at 7:48 PM.
