Meeting called to order:  6:30 PM

Additions: 2 additions were made to Project Updates.

Minutes: Maureen passed out copies of the minutes from last month that Theresa provided.  There was one correction on the date for Charity Poker in May.  Once the correction was noted, Phil made a motion to accept the minutes and Cheryl seconded the motion.  All were in favor and motion was passed.

Treasurer Report: Diana provided a report for both the general account and the MP Account.  Please see Treasurer Report for details and balances. Phil made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s report and Cheryl seconded.  All present were in favor and the motion passed.

Correspondence:  Karissa reported that there was an article in “Lyon Today” that referenced Youth Entrepreneur Market (YEM). Karissa also reported about a chamber event and the founders of Beautiful Harvest Food Pantry.  The pantry is run by a Mother/Daughter team. Karissa passed around two pamphlets that describe the pantry activities.

Carol Sienko talked about a grant she received for $230. She also reported about a donation for Camp Civitan from her investment firm.

Thad report that a KVCC member Rashid passed away.  Rashid did not attend many meetings and was ill recently.  He left a wife and a 17 year old son.  The family requested donations to a food pantry in the St. Clair Episcopal Church.  There was discussion about a memorial donation when a club member passes away.  Thad made a motion to donate $500, from the MP account to the food pantry.  Maureen seconded the motion.  All present were in favor and motion passed.

North Central Meeting: The North Central meeting will be held April 12 & 13, 2024 in
Benton Harbor.  Rooms are available for $99.00 plus taxes.

International Meeting:   The Civitan International meeting will be held from 8/4 to 8/7/2024 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. No additional details have been published as yet.

Essay Scholarship: One essay has been submitted to date.  Paige was going to ask the two high schools to repost the essay contest and Cheryl VanVliet was going to contact Sue Meisner about posting on different community sites.  Elijah was going to repost the essay contest on our Facebook page.  April 17 is the deadline for high school seniors to submit an essay. If any member knows a  high school senior attending the South Lyon or South Lyon East  high schools, and are going to be attending a college, community college, trade school or certificate school, perhaps suggest they look at the contest details.

Charity Poker: Our next Charity Poker will be on May 9th – 12th.  Several members, who always volunteer for several shifts, will be unavailable to volunteer for the May poker nights, leaving us very short.  We need all members to volunteer for this session.  Remember you are not playing poker, just working administrative roles.  If we fail to get enough volunteers, Krazy Kops will not want to give us poker nights again.  This is a significant fund raiser.  Without it, we would have to struggle to get money for our various events. Elijah will send out a sign up genius to sign up for shifts next month. Elijah has also submitted our applications for the charity poker dates.

20th Annual South Lyon Area Creek Clean-up: KVCC will be a sponsor this event and after a lot of discussion, it was decided that the club will purchase Biggby Coffee and fruit or granola bars for people cleaning up. Vests and grabbers will be provided, however KVCC will loan our grabbers and vests to volunteers as well.  Toarmina’s will be providing pizza for the event. It was suggested that someone being a trash can for our tent area.

Greater Brighton Area Chamber of Commerce: The club joined the Brighton Chamber of Commerce.  Paulina is one of the ambassadors.  Joining the chamber has a lot of benefits to KVCC. For example, we can post our events of their calendar which provides added visibility.

Youth Entrepreneur Market (YEM): The YEM starts on 5/11/2024 and on 5/11, there will be a ribbon cutting event.  We can use the DDA website to publicize our market. Cheryl will handle insurance for the club & Paulina will be the ambassador to the Greater Brighton Chamber of Commerce. Karissa passed around a newspaper, “Lyon Today” with an article that mentions the YEM program and had a picture of Thad and his exercise class.

Road Clean-up: The next road clean-up will be on April 13 with April 14 as a rain date.  Club members participating should meet at the New Hudson Biggby at 10:00 AM.

Music on the Grand: Music on the Grand will begin on June 12 and is held on the lawn in front of the Methodist Church on Grand River. The club will have a tent on June 12, July 1 and August 14. We will decide what crafts at a later meeting.  The musical acts for the dates we decided on are:
June 12:  Weekend Come Back
July 17:  Tribute to the Beatles
August 14: Captain Fantastic (Elton John)

Cheryl gave updates on Vivien & Theresa’s health.

Our next meeting is a dinner meeting at Teresita’s Mexican Restaurant at 6:30 PM on March 28th.
