january 11, 2024 meeting minutes

Present: Thad Bogert, Hal Hultman, Cheryl Van Vliet, Phil Crutchfield, Paige George, Diana Bolton & Maureen Posler
 
Meeting called to order: 6:35 PM
 
Additions & Corrections:  Thad added Adopt – A - Family & Adopt - A-Highway under Project Updates.  Paige added SLCC under Project Updates (to be explained later).
 
Minutes from November Meeting: Minutes from our last business meeting were passed out for review.  Hal made a motion to accept the minutes.  Cheryl seconded to motion.  All were in favor and motion passed.
 
Treasurer’s Report:   Diana reviewed the Treasurer’s report for both the general account and the MP account. Diana mentioned that since we had a credit at the post office, we were able to mail additional boxes from the packing party and stay within the amount approved for mailing.
 
Correspondence:  Only correspondence was an email that Cheryl received from a solider that received a package from out most recent Desert Angels packing party. Cheryl will being email to next meeting.
 
Project Updates:

1. Desert Angels: Thad suggested deferring this project until the next meeting when Elijah & Karissa should be present.  Maureen advised the group that she had entered all the participants that registered at the packing party on a spreadsheet.  Not all participants registered, either due to the line or just not wanting to give out their information. Including members from both the KVCC club and the Plymouth Canton club that showed up to support us, a total of 67 people registered. 

 

1. Scholarship Contest: Maureen and Paige reported that they are conferencing on January 19th to finalize the revisions to the applications and revise the blurb to the schools about the new requirements for the essay.  Maureen passed out suggested revisions at our November 2023 meeting. At that meeting, the club members approved the suggested revisions.

 

1. Youth Entrepreneur Market:  No report

 

1. Charity Poker: Dates for the two charity poker nights are May 9-12, & June 20-23, 2024.  As we get closer to the event, a sign-up genius will be sent.  Please block these dates on your calendars.  Keep in mind that you will not be playing poker; it’s simply doing the administrative portion of the night.  You do not need to know anything about poker.

 

1. Inspired Movement Project (Digital Play Space): Thad had nothing new to report.
2. Adopt-A-Family: Thad reported that he delivered to one family.  Carol Sienko delivered the other. There was a question raised about how Active Faith vets the families they recommend. Thad had a question since the family he delivered to were sitting in a luxury brand vehicle. Discussion was that we don’t know who the vehicle belonged to, however perhaps we could ask Active Faith about the criteria.

 

1. Adopt-A-Highway:  Diana reported that dates for 2024 have not been posted yet.

 

1. SLCC: Paige made a request for the South Lyon Community Coalition.  Paige asked for KVCC to be listed as their civic sector rep. This rep is needed for SLCC grant proposals.  No funding is being asked for.  The club discussed the request and agreed this was something that we       could do.  Maureen agreed to be the contact since no one else wanted to.  Paige indicated that a rep may never get called, however she needed a name.

Health & Wellness Report:  Cheryl gave an update on Theresa Furget’s health and also of Vivian VanVliet’s health.
 
Next Meeting:  Dinner Meeting on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at 6:30 PM at Teresita Mexican Grill.
