Present:  Elijah Canfield, Thad Bogert, Rich Roberts, Hal Hultman, Cheryl VanVliet, Julie Pelletier, Sue Misener and Maureen Posler.
Elijah called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM.
  1. Additions & Corrections: No additions or corrections. Motion to approve agenda made by Rich and seconded by Hal.
  2. Minutes of Last Meeting: Motion to accept minutes of May 12, 2022 meeting made by Rich and seconded by Maureen.  All approved.
  3. Treasurer’s Report: Elijah reviewed the MP and the General accounts.  Cheryl made a motion to approve and Hall seconded the motion. Motion was approved.
  4. Correspondence: Cheryl reviewed the plans for the Plymouth Canton Civitan Club’s 50th Anniversary celebration on July 21, 2022.
  5. 2022 Civitan International Elections & Voting:  Maureen reviewed the results of the International Convention elections as summarized in the email from Priscilla Denard on July 7, 2022.  The Civitan International Board Approved Bylaws proposal failed with a 50.8% to 47.4% margin.  In addition, the Arab Civitan Club Bylaws Amendment #1 failed, #2 passed, #3 failed and #4 passed.  The 2022-2023 Civitan International President-Elect was Kearney “Dee” Hutsler.  The email also noted the two Arab club amendments passed by membership have discrepancies that may make them inconsistent with the current Civitan International bylaws document.  Corporate counsel will need to review the amendments before they are finalized and added to the document. Besides the elections, Thad updated the group that he did make a presentation on the Inspire Movement Program and there was a lot of interest.  His presentation was not in one of the groups meetings in the webcast.
  6. North Central District 2022 Convention:  Cheryl submitted the awards applications for the Youth Entrepreneur program, the Inspire Movement Program and the Desert Angels Packing night under the Community & Civitan Awareness category.    Cheryl also mentioned that this would be the final North Central District Convention due to the restructuring of Civitan International and the elimination of districts.  There is still time to register if you are interested in attending.
  7. Growth Committee:
    1. Youth Entrepreneur Market: The next Youth Entrepreneur Market will take place on 8/13/2022.  At the July 9 event, there were 5 booths and consistent, if not a lot of foot traffic.  There was a lot of discussion on how to publicize the Youth Market.  Please spread the word on your media pages and to your family and friends.  Elijah and Karissa will be out of town on 8/13, so let Sue Misener know if you can volunteer.  There was also discussion of purchasing a tent with our logo information for use at various events.  Sue Misener will check on pricing for discussion at our next meeting. Cheryl & Hal also said they would visit the Wyandotte Art Fair to see what kinds of tents various vendors have.
    2. End of Year Event:  The group had discussion about having an end of the year event where we could present the youth entrepreneur participants with plaques with the Civitan and event names on the plaques. This event could be tied in with the club’s 5 year anniversary celebration.
    3. For the 8/13/2022 Youth Market, it appears there will be more interest and possibly 9-11 booths.
    4. Desert Angels Packing Party:  There was discussion about having a second Desert Angels Packing Party. It appeared that early October would be the best timeframe for a second event. Cheryl read a second email of appreciation for the box that a soldier received from the last event. Cheryl mentioned that making an announcement for Desert Angels packing supplies at the NC District convention might result in getting additional prize supplies.  Cheryl will contact Marta Ford.
  8. 5-Year Celebration: Discussion about this event.  Suggestion was made on where the event could be held.  A couple of golf courses were mentioned (Riverbank, Coyote) and Sue was going to check on availability.  Mark your calendars for September 22, 2022 for our 5-year Anniversary celebration.
  9. Project Updates:
    1. Inspire Movement (Digital Playspace Project: The group had discussion on the project and agreed that once school is back in session, Thad will reconnect with his contacts to get the program back on track.  There was discussion about equipment costs since we had previous discussion about purchasing a 3-D projector.  The discussion was postponed until the next meeting and in the interim, Thad will prepare a list of needed equipment and costs.
  10. Upcoming Projects:
    1. Music on the Grand: KVCC will have a booth at the July 27 event and the music genre will be Country.  The location is the New Hudson United Methodist Church.  If you are interested in volunteering, the time is from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.
    2. South Lyon Pumpkinfest:  Pumpkinfest will take place on September 24 from 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM (set-up at 7- 9 AM) – September 25 from 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM.  We had discussion about prizes and if you know any friends or could post on your Facebook pages that we are looking for small stuffed animals in good condition for prizes, please help the club publicize our need.  There will be additional discussion about prizes and a budget at the next meeting.
    3. Adopt-A-Highway: The next planned highway clean-up is Saturday, Oct. 1 and the rain day will be on Sunday, October 2.
    4. Focus Hope: The next Focus Hope box packing will take place on October 8, 2022.

Next Meeting: The next meeting will be a dinner meeting on July 28, 2022 at the Teresita Mexican Grill at 6:30 PM.

A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Rich at 7:52 PM and seconded by Hal Hultman.
Minutes taken on July 14, 2022 and respectfully submitted on July 19, 2022 by Maureen Posler.
